Some interesting dog facts
- When obtaining a dog, particular attention should be paid to the type of dog with respect to size of the yard, the amount of exercise the dog will receive and the amount of time available for grooming.
- Dogs and humans are the only animals with prostates
- The common belief that dogs are color blind is false. Dog can see color but it is not as vivid a color scheme as we see. It is much like our vision in twilight.
- There are 701 types of pure breed dogs
- Dogs dream. If you look at your dog while it is sleeping, sometimes you’ll see its eyes move and twitch under its eyelids. Humans do this too and we definitely dream. So researchers are almost positive that dogs dream too. But guess what? No one knows what dogs dream about.
- A dog’s sense of smell is 1000 times better than a person’s
- The bloodhound is the only animal whose evidence is admissible in an American court.
- Greyhounds are the most ancient dog breed
- A “bloodhound “can distinguish and identify several scents at the same time.
- Mixed breeds and cross breeds are NOT the same. Mixed breed dogs have various lineages that are most likely unknown, as for cross breeds, there are only 2 different breed of dogs combined together. Mixed breed dogs are less likely to suffer from inherited diseases and disabilities than purebred dogs are.
- Don’t smile at any dog that you feel may be dangerous. To him you would be baring your teeth as a sign of aggression.
- The Great Pyrenees dogs are so sensitive to anesthesia that it can kill them. Great caution is required for any surgery for this breed.
- Chow-chows were originally bred for three reasons:1) of course, for a great pet/hunter/helper;2) to keep people warm with their furry hides; and 3) as food(like pigs or cows).
- Chow chows have bluish black tongues and gums(which start out pink but turn dark by 8 weeks)
- Big dogs have large litters than smaller dogs, but smaller dogs generally live longer than larger dogs
